1.4 million Cruise Passengers Expected This YearApproximately 1.4 million cruise passengers are expected to visit the island by the end of the year…this according to tourism minister, Dr. Wykeham McNeill. 1.4 million Cruise Passengers Expected This Year

Thus far there has been a 3.6% increase in the numbers this year when compared to last year.If this trend continues, it should amount to a number of 1.4 million

Normally visitors just stop for the day, but now the the number of stop over visitors have also increased by 2%.

1.4 million Cruise Passengers Expected This YearThere is also a 9 % increase in occupancy as more European are opting to vacation here…and more Jamaicans living abroad are returning home for vacation.

All of this bodes well for the industry and should give the country an economical boost.

By the end of the year, at lest three ships will be making Montego Bay their home port…which should create new marketing opportunity for local goods and services.

In the past, most visitors came to the island during the winter months when it is cold in their homeland and they want to get some tropical sun. This is slowly changing as more and more visitors are coming all year round. This trend is slowly transforming the island from  just a winter vacationing spot to an year-round vacationing spot.

All of this bodes well for the economy as it is expected to create more job opportunities for the future
