A 4-2 win in Penalty shootout took Argentina through to the world cup finals.
After 120 minutes-plus of grueling battle, the score remained 0-0. The winner had to be decided via penalty.
The game went back and forth with very few chances in between.
Arjen Robben had a glorious chance to win the game in the 91st minute for the Dutch when he got behind the Argentinian defense…but Macherano, who had a MVP performance in this game, came charging back just in time to block Robben’s shot on goal.
overtime and penalty highlights
In the 115th minute substitute Palacios got behind the Netherlands defense one on one with the goalie, but sent a tame header straight to the goalkeeper
Two minutes later, another substitute Maxi Rodriquez should have won it for Argentina but he botched a Messi cross and the ball bounced tamely to the Netherlands goalie.
Leonel Messi struggle to get going in the game. The Dutch made sure he had no time and space with the ball. As soon as he got it they were all over him. That however does not matter now…they are in the finals and this game is over. They will regroup for the next game.
Argentina will now face Germany on Sunday in the finals.
The Netherlands will face Brazil for 3rd place…Thiago Silva will be back, so it should be a better game (don’t expect another blow out…regardless of all the comments, about Brazil’s performance, I think Germany just got lucky playing against a defense without Silva).
