How much education does an average person get?
Q: How much education does an average person gets in Jamaica?
A: The average person gets up to a High School or secondary school education.
After that some go on to college others go to work. Of course only the best and brightest, the most athletic, and most fortunate get to go on to college immediately after high school. Others have to grind out life with a high school education...at least for a while.
...not that they are not ambitious, but they just do not qualify or cannot afford it.
We really have only three recognized Universities: University of the West Indies (UWI), University of Technology (UTECH), and Nothern Caribbean University (NCU...and the competition to get in all three is fierce.
Of course, we have community colleges and evening classes all over the Island for those who want to improve their chances of getting into college even if they did not have a successful high school or secondary school career. This is like a second chance at a first class education, if you will.
Then we have those we migrate to other countries...who I call the lucky ones. They get access to many more opportunities to better themselves and actually get a college education...even if they did not do so well in school while in Jamaica...and believe me, the majority of them grab the opportunity with open arms. Why? Because on a whole Jamaicans are driven and ambitious.
