I Thought My Heart Would Break....

I had to wonder those of you with an African heritage would respond to a news program I listened to last evening.
7 million starving in Africa..we have all seen their faces on television, magazines..what is happening now in Eastern Africa. In this part of Africa it was said cassava,(tapioca) was a staple food. High in carbohydrates, low in protein. By genetic engineering, adding the genes from beans, or corn the protein could be increased to around 12% from the 3 or 4% (was stated that it is)could provide more needed protein, better quality, more strength for people's bodies.
Cassava has cyanide in it, one of these plants genes helps to negate the effect of cyanide. I am not a very knowledgeable of genetic engineering food. Like others, I'm a little uneasy about it. From what the report said, whoever controls the use of this is in Europe blocking approval.
I have to wonder is it much different in the manner we add nutrients back to processed food..It even sounds healthier than that. I understand many would object on their belief of eating natural, and unprocessed food. I don't think these people have the luxury of that choice, maybe somewhere in the future with a better food choice, better land, time.. I have no idea, if this engineering were approved how long it would take to make a difference...So,as I look at their faces, knowing only despair and death, what would their choice be if they could choose would it be, "Do everything you can." All I know is whoever controls the food, controls the people...
