Q: I'm hosting a surprise birthday party and would like to serve authentic Jamaican food. For starters I plan to serve beef patties, watermelon and fresh pineapple. Dinner will be tomato, cucumber and avocado salad, jerk chicken, escovitch fish, peas and rice, sauteed chayote (cho cho), fried plantain and festival. Beverages include Rum Punch, fruit punch and do you have a recipe for homemade ginger beer?

Dessert will be rum cake and chocolate cake.Is this a authentic menu? Any other ideas?

A: Hmmmm! Sounds really delicious and authentic to me...you seem to have it covered. You may also want to consider adding: curry goat, red stripe beer, heineken, cocoa bread, and sorrel drink for a little more variety.

Here's your homemade ginger beer recipe link...enjoy.
