Jamaican White Bread Recipe

Hard dough bread


9 Cups all purpose flour

2 pack yeast

1 cup sealed milk

1 cup water

4 tsp salt

1/4 cup sugar

1/4 cup melted butter

1 flour board



1. Sift flour, measure and stir in 1 tsp sugar in 1 cup of luke-warm water

2. Add yeast and let it stand for 10 minutes

3. Put milk, salt,  1/4 cup sugar, and melted butter in a 5 qrt mixing bowl

4. Stir in a little flour then the yeast and then the remaining flour.

5. Beat until smooth, soft dough

6. Put a little flour on the board and cover, let it rest for 10 minutes

7. Now knead the dough until the outside is smooth and elastic

8. Round up dough and return to well greased mixing bowl

9. Turn once to bring greased side up

10. Cover with a towel and put in a warm place away from draft to rise until double its bulk about 1 1/2 hours

11. After dough  is risen , plunge first in the center of the dough and turn out on floured board and allow to rest for 10 minutes covered

12. Divide dough into equal parts, then roll and shape into loaves.

13. Cover and put to rise again until double its bulk

14. Bake in an oven at 375 degrees F for about 30 minutes  or until done
