In an evenly contested race Bahama’s Shaunae Miller dove to the finish line at the last second to nip Allyson Felix for the gold in the 400 m final. Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson finished third.
Competing in her only individual event at these games, Felix was expected to win in style, but Shaunae Miller had other plans. She was going to give Felix the run of her life and do all she could to win the race.
Coming up the finish line neck and neck stride for stride, Miller decides to launch herself across the finish line ahead of Felix. This tactic worked brilliantly. She crossed the line ahead of her and won the gold medal.
This kind of tactic is sure to be scrutinized for future events and could very well be made illegal. For the moment though, Miller is enjoying her gold medal win, and Felix is trying to recover from what just happened.
