Non-rastafarians with dreadlocks

by Kay

Q: I hear some people think it is offensive if people have dreadlocks but are not Rastafarian. Do you think it's offensive? I have considered wearing my hair in dreadlocks because it just seems like a nice natural way to keep my hair. I don't see why a religion should own a hairstyle, even if it's associated with it. But I am interested to know what you think.

A: I don't know about that. Some people may think it is offensive, but I don't. In fact, there are many people in Jamaica who are not rasta, per se, but they wear their hair in dreads...for style.

They even have braids now for it...they call it 'sister locks' ...and it help grow your hair.

...and if you ask me, it look really nice.

So, if you want to wear your hair in dreads go for it...and nice up yourself :-)

peace and love!
