Social Workers in Jamaica

Q: How do Jamaicans feel about social work practices, as far as their willingness to seek counsel? And if needing counsel what different programs are offered to them?

A: Well, As it relates to that any individual who goes through a problem or crisis, the upper class can find the money to go to a counselor and deal with what is bothering them.

For the poorer set of people, if it is a major issue, the government may help. As far as persons who are not working, they may go and see a pastor or sometimes resort to neighbors and friends and each on help one.

Like sometimes my friend come by my house and pore out her heart to me and I help her in whatever way I can because she cannot afford it.

There are also social workers who go out and volunteer and help in different situation.

As we speak, my sister who studied psychology in college goes around to the girl's home and counsel young women in crisis.

So, yes counsel is accepted.
