Young Footballers Only A Snippet Away - U-17 World Cup

by Mike Holt
(Jamaica)

The young "Boyz" did the country proud at the U-17 world cup this year (June 2011) playing attractive possessive football against the likes of Japan, France, and Argentina.

The "Boyz" lost their first two games to Japan: 0-1, and to Argentina: 1-2, then tied with France 1-1.

Not bad for a bunch of inexperienced high school local players...playing against young, up and coming world class academy football players from from France, Japan, and Argentina.

This tells me one thing...that we have just as much talent in Jamaica as any other country in the world...and our Manning and Dacosta cup competitions are highly competitive.

Think about it! That's all the experience these young players have, yet they showed the world that they can play.

I wonder what would happen if Captain Burrell and others get their act together and get the football academy going on the island. It will would make a world of difference for football on the island.

Football would finally do for Jamaican what track and field is doing right now...BRING MORE RESPECT!

We haven't heard too much about the academy, but I hope to God the idea is not dead. The country needs it.

Good Job young Boyz, you will be back and you will do better next time.
